Miss Universe 2013 Evening Gowns

Watching the Miss Universe Pageant just made me want to dress myself in a gown and sashay down our staircase and ramp it up towards our living room. I'm proud of our very own contestant, Ms. Philippines Ariella Arida who finished as 3rd runner up.

Now, let me give you an account of what the Top 5 Miss Universe contestants wore during the pageant's evening gown competition. These same gowns are the ones worn by the contestants during the question and answer portion as well as during coronation.

Miss Ecuador had an elegant mint gown with feathers. The color, for me, wasn't really stunning but it complemented well with Miss Ecuador's skin color and in fact, comments include that her mint gown made her skin glow. The feathers on the gown made it look fun.

Miss Brazil wore a peach, sheer gown with lots of sparkles. Truly, you just can't have too much on that gown. The peach color is very feminine and Miss Brazil carried it well.

Miss Spain's white, fluffy, and glamorous gown was actually my favorite. I can see how the design and style of her gown was "balanced" and I won't mind wearing that gown to any night now.

Miss Philippines wore a yellow gown by Colombian designer, Alfredo Barreza. Looking from afar, Miss Philippines has the most colorful gown among the top 5 finalists but honestly, I wasn't too impressed with this yellow gown. It's very simple and it could have been made more beautiful with more beading. It looks like a high school prom gown for me. But of course, Ariella carried it well and the yellow color looks a lot like it really complements Ariella's morena skin tone. I can predict Filipinas will be wearing a lot of yellow gowns in the coming months.

Miss Venezuela's Gabriela Isler wore a long-sleeved gown that she co-designed. The color is almost the same as that of Miss Spain's gown but Miss Venezuela is the only contestant who wore a gown with sleeves. It's interesting to know that Miss Venezuela co-designed this gown and she wanted this gown to be really comfortable. Well I guess her efforts paid off because she was crowned as Miss Universe 2013.

I just noticed that none of the top 5 contestants wore a black or dark-colored gown. I guess the current trend for evening gowns are now geared towards light colors. I particularly want to experiment on a peach dress, not as flamboyant as Miss Spain's gown, but the right amount of beading for a formal evening party. Look at the gown below:

This A-line short-sleeved floor-length dress is simple and sweet, and the sleeves provide buffer for cold evening nights. I like that the color of the dress is subdued which would allow the wearer to put on more makeup and accessories without going over board. This evening gown is available at Persunmall for $327.00.
