Product Review: Proactiv Refining Mask

Proactiv Refining Mask is a rinse-off mask with 6% concentrated antibacterial sulfur designed to complement your Proactiv 3-step system. It deep cleanses and helps to minimize pores. It comes FREE with every purchase of your Proactiv 30-day or 60-day kit. Aside from sulfur as its active ingredient, it also has Vitamin E, Vitamin F Complex, Tea Tree Oil, and Geranium and Lemongrass extracts.

Here's my review of the Proactiv Refining Mask:

When I first opened the bottle of the refining mask, the scent immediately reminded me of my mother's cosmetics. It smells like those makeup available on the market and it does not have the pungent sulfur scent. I was actually thinking that the product would be yellow considering that all the other sulfur-based acne treatments that I have become familiar with were yellow. But Proactiv Refining Mask comes in a white cream that glides on smoothly on the skin.
Here's how it looks like when applied:

A little goes a long way. The first time I used it as a spot treatment, I wasn't able to use up all the pea-sized cream that I squeezed out from the tube so be careful and make sure to take just the right amount of product specially if you will only be using it for spot treatment. Adjust the amount if you're going to apply it on your whole face.
The mask will dry into a white cast on your face. At first I thought that it would be hard to rinse off and I thought that I would need to repeat using the facial wash in order to take the mask out. But I was surprised that the mask easily goes off with just using warm water.
What's best about this product is that you can use this both as a rinse-off mask or an overnight spot treatment. I like using this as a spot treatment since my acne has actually cleared up already by using the 3-step system.
While using the Proactiv Refining Mask, I really felt that it was a very good supplement to the 3-step system. My problem pimples, those that come out before, during, and after my monthly period, would be less painful and wouldn't get too swollen like before. I like that this has really has helped me manage the occasional big pimples that I could not seem to totally eradicate.
This product also claims to aid in controlling oil but I think that I did not need the oil-control factor since I am already very satisfied with the oil control that I get from the 3-step system. What I would like to see, and expect, in the near future are tighter pores brought from using this Proactiv Refining Mask.

What you need to know about Proactiv Refining Mask
If you're sensitive to sulfur, then you might want to use this product sparingly. Sulfur is a very good anti-acne ingredient but some people are allergic to it while others may develop some hypersensitivity in using the product. The Proactiv Refining Mask is recommended to be used for a maximum of 10-minutes nightly on the first week and after the first week, you may use this for 2 to 3 times per week for maintenance. Do not use the product for more than 10 minutes, except when using it as an overnight spot treatment.

How do I incorporate the Proactiv Refining Mask in my 3-step routine?
You can insert using the Proactiv Refining Mask between your Steps 1 and 2, and you can also use this as your Step 4, as follows:
  • Step 1: Use the Proactiv Renewing Cleanser
  • Apply your Proactiv Refining Mask to dampened skin and leave it on your face for 10 minutes. Rinse off.
  • Step 2: Continue with your Proactiv Revitalizing Toner.
  • Step 3: Use your Proactiv Repairing Treatment.
  • Step 4: Apply Proactiv Refining Mask as a spot-treatment for problem pimples.
